Newark, North Carolina Girls Charged with Submitting Fraudulent Medical Insurance coverage Claims with Aflac

Hassanah Todd, 33, of Newark and Shirell Todd, 32, of Excessive Level, N.C. had been indicted on second-degree conspiracy, second-degree insurance coverage fraud, third-degree theft by deception, and fourth-degree falsifying or tampering with data. 

The indictment was returned by a grand jury on Might 12, 2022.

The grand jury indictment alleges that between June 1, 2017 and July 13, 2019, Hassanah and Shirell Todd conspired to commit insurance coverage fraud so as to obtain advantages that they weren’t entitled to from their insurance coverage firm, Aflac.

The indictment additional alleges that the defendants submitted, or precipitated to be submitted, claims types, which included medical data that falsely claimed they acquired medical therapy or companies when they didn’t.

The fees are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed harmless till confirmed responsible.

Second-degree crimes carry a sentence of 5 to 10 years in state jail and a high-quality of as much as $150,000.

Third-degree costs carry a sentence of three to 5 years in state jail and a high-quality of as much as $15,000, and fourth-degree costs carry a sentence of as much as 18 months in jail and a high-quality of as much as $10,000.

Deputy Lawyer Common Amanda E. Nini offered the case to the grand jury for the Workplace of the Insurance coverage Fraud Prosecutor (OIFP) beneath the supervision of Personal Insurance coverage Bureau Chief DAG Cheryl Maccaroni, Assistant Bureau Chief DAG Crystal Callahan, and Deputy Insurance coverage Fraud Prosecutor AAG Al Garcia.

The investigation was carried out by Detective Jessica Petri with help from Detective Kahlil McGrady and Detective Shaquan Worilds, beneath the supervision of Sergeant Wendy Berg and Lieutenant Kelly Howard of the Workplace of the Insurance coverage Fraud Prosecutor, together with Aflac’s Particular Investigation Unit.
